We decided whilst we had so much time at home to do a little bit of *biology* (we are in no way scientists but very interested!). These "ecosystem jars" went viral on Tik Tok, and we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take a look inside our local waters and see what is living there. It was also a great way to identify just how much water pollution is around our local area (North Wales.)
The two smaller jars (pictured above) were taken from a fast-flowing stream that runs through the woodland above our house. Across these two jars we counted over 4 different species of vertebrates, crustaceans and microfauna.
The large jar (pictured above) was taken from a very still and deep pond. We weren't sure what we would find as we thought the water was stagnant, but in total we counted over 16 different species of vertebrates, crustaceans and microfauna!
